The five trait dimensions
The animal is a name that makes scores memorable; the five bars underneath are the substance. Here is what each axis measures, and the strengths at both ends.
Outgoing - where the energy flows
Outgoing isn't sociability, it's the direction energy travels. What each end is good at, and why 'quiet' gets misread as 'passive' so often.
Caring - adapting to others, or holding your own standard
High caring doesn't mean a good child and low caring doesn't mean a selfish one. What each direction is strong at, and what each needs to practise.
Self-control - the capacity to plan and to wait
Self-control is less a personality trait than a growing ability. It develops fastest between ages 3 and 6, and a low score doesn't mean 'knows better and does it anyway'.
Emotional sensitivity - how finely a child registers feeling
Sensitivity isn't a fault, it's resolution. What a child at the high end actually experiences, and what works and backfires while a feeling is up.
Curiosity - preferring the familiar, or seeking the new
Low curiosity isn't passivity, it's drawing security from the familiar. Steadiness comes from exactly there.
