- Is KidType a medical or psychological diagnosis?
- No. KidType is not a medical or psychological diagnosis. It is a free, informal personality snapshot based on research into temperament and Big Five dimensions. Results are descriptive, not diagnostic. For professional assessment, consult a licensed child psychologist or developmental specialist.
- What age range is KidType designed for?
- KidType is designed for children ages 3-10. The quiz format adapts by age: younger children (3-6) are assessed via picture-based forced-choice, while older children (7-10) answer on a scale. Results for ages 3-6 are more variable and should be treated as a snapshot.
- How is KidType different from MBTI or other personality tests?
- KidType measures personality and temperament through a Big Five framework, adapted for young children. MBTI is designed for adults and measures preference categories. KidType results show continuous dimension scores (openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, neuroticism) rather than four-letter type codes, though the 32 animal friends provide a memorable summary.
- How are the 32 animal friends assigned?
- The 32 animal types are derived from the combination of the Big Five personality dimensions. Each animal represents a unique profile across these five dimensions. Results show both the animal archetype and the underlying dimension scores so you understand the 'why' behind the result.
- Why does the quiz ask who answers - parent or child?
- Younger children (ages 3-6) are assessed by parent observation since they may not reliably self-assess. Children ages 7-10 can answer directly, though parent perspective is still valuable. You can take both and compare perspectives to gain a fuller picture.
- How long does it take?
- About 3-5 minutes.
- Do I need to log in?
- No. You can take the test without logging in. To save results or keep growth records, log in (magic link / Google).
- Can I see the result again?
- If you take the test while logged in, it is saved to your growth records. Anonymous tests are not saved.
- Can I take the quiz more than once?
- Yes. You can re-assess your child every 3-6 months to track growth. KidType uses different items each time to prevent memorization and provides anchor-based change tracking so you see genuine shifts in personality or temperament.
- How does KidType protect my child's data?
- KidType is compliant with COPPA, GDPR (EU), and PIPA (South Korea). We collect only minimal data: a child's nickname (not real name), age, and responses. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Responses are stored separately from identifiable information and never shared with third parties. See our privacy policy for details.
- Is KidType free?
- Yes. KidType is completely free to use. There are no hidden fees, subscriptions, or premium features. The site is funded by advertising.
